AI and the future of work
How automation, generative AI and algorithmic management reshape jobs, skills and inequality — starting with the workers who feel it first. Published in Sociology Lens, with a second study at revise-and-resubmit.
PhD researcher · Syracuse University (iSchool)
I study how AI and online platforms are changing work — and I build the software, too.
I'm a PhD researcher in Information Science & Technology at Syracuse University. Before research, I spent years as a full-stack developer with 100+ freelance builds on Fiverr and Upwork — so today I study the freelancers and platforms I used to work inside.
hi, I'm Naim 👋
What I'm working on
Four connected interests, one question: what happens to people when software and AI organize their work — and what should we build once we know? I study it with mixed methods, then write the tools the findings call for.
How automation, generative AI and algorithmic management reshape jobs, skills and inequality — starting with the workers who feel it first. Published in Sociology Lens, with a second study at revise-and-resubmit.
How students and workers actually use AI agents and tools. I analyze thousands of student conversations with an AI tutor chatbot (AI Programming Research Group) and build learning tools for Gravity Spy, the citizen-science project behind LIGO.
Platform and gig work and the algorithms that manage it. My master's thesis follows Bangladeshi freelancers on Upwork and Fiverr through 24 in-depth interviews — work I did myself first, with 100+ client projects.
How information systems, platforms and mobile internet open — or close — economic opportunity in the Global South, and how AI is reshaping that path for workers in countries like Bangladesh.

Systems I built
A few of the full-stack platforms I've shipped — custom CMSs, SaaS, payments and real-time apps. The full portfolio lives on my developer profile.
Scholarship applications with review workflow, donation management, job postings, media library, multilingual content and per-page SEO.
Author submissions, reviewer portal, editorial decisions, volumes & issues, article payments and an automatic Word-to-PDF typesetter.
Compares colleges by cutoffs, placements and fees, with subscription plans, coupons, Razorpay checkout, Google sign-in and PDF reports.
Multi-store menus and modifiers, Stripe payments, Twilio verification, DoorDash dispatch and automatic kitchen-receipt printing.
Public rooms, private messages, moderation with bans and blocks, custom themes, captcha sign-up and a JSON API.
A Bangla, English and German law-firm site with a full CMS for lawyers, practice areas, portfolio files and SEO.
Two toolkits, one desk
I do my own data collection and my own instrumentation. My research interests — AI and the future of work, human–computer interaction, digital labor and online freelancers, and ICT for development — sit where these two columns overlap.
